The Kaiser has always been the core of Shireroth's government and the most important symbol of the Republic to citizens and outsiders alike. By the Charter, the Kaiser is has almost absolute power over the nation, and is responsible for making sure that the Ministries run smoothly and the nobles remain loyal. The Kaiser also supplements the Landsraad by decreeing important laws into place, an action which gives them more legislative force than if they had been passed by the nobles alone.

Historically, the reigns of the Kaisers have lasted on average about three months, with each choosing their successor from among their most trusted advisors. Nine different people have held the Kaisership during Shireroth's four year history, many more than once (Shireroth's founder, Erik Metzler, undoubtedly wins the prize for most time spent as Kaiser). The Kaiser cannot be forced to abdicate by the government, but he can be removed by civil war, a path which has had to be taken occasionally.

Each Kaiser, upon assuming the throne, takes up a royal name. It is somewhat traditional to choose a mythological god, real or imaginary, who embodies the direction the Kaiser wants their reign to go, but Kaisers have named themselves after all sorts of things, including their real names (Kaiser Ari and Kaiseress Jadie, for example).

The current Kaiser is Eoin Dornan, under the name Kaiser Yarad I. As this is Eoin's first time as Kaiser, there isn't any past experience to base predictions on, although he has done well in all his other posts. The fact that he was chosen to be Kaiser is enough to reassure most that he will be capable in his role.
